The name Poly is a result of their Plantronics and Polycom history. They have been producing audio communications equipment for business and consumers since 1961. Originally incorporated as Pacific Plantronics, Poly's products support unified communications, mobile use, gaming and music. They are based in Santa Cruz, California with most of their products produced in Mexico and China.

Initially in the early 60s, Courtney Graham and Keith Larkin, who were both friends and pilots, submitted designs for lightweight headsets to United Airlines, as an alternative to hand-held microphones in the cockpits of aircraft. This came about, not only from a need and piloting experience, but also from Larkin working for Plane-Aids, a Japanese import company which offered spectacles and sunglasses that had transistor radios integrated with those products.

Later that decade, the Federal Aviation Agency awarded Plantronics the sole headset suppliership for air traffic controllers, and thereafter headsets to the operators of Bell Telephone Co. Their success didn't stop there, Plantronics went on to work with NASA and other large corporations and call centres using their products and patents - with cordless, wireless, bluetooth and infrared headsets for business, industry and computer gaming.

Plantonic's acquisitions in the 1980s included Walker Equipment and Ameriphone before changing name to Clarity (amplified handsets and telephones for UC), Altec Lansing (computer speakers - sold to Profit Equity in 2009), Octiv, Inc. (audio tools for creating 5.1 surround sound - renamed as the Volume Logic) and Polycom in 2016. From these acquisitions, technologies were adapted and developed upon, and are in many ways used in Polys' telephony products.
["GET
